This month’s session with the Town of Gilbert Leadership Program (Class 33) gave me an unforgettable hands-on experience—one that left me humbled, empowered, and filled with a deep respect for the people who serve and protect our community every single day.
As part of our behind-the-scenes look into public safety, I had the chance to suit up like a firefighter and feel what it’s like to step into their shoes—literally. I even held the fire hose (just for a few seconds, but still!). As someone who’s 5 feet tall and 52 years old, it was both thrilling and surprisingly emotional. These men and women train for high-pressure, high-stakes situations every single day, and getting even a glimpse of that gave me a whole new appreciation for their work.
We also stepped into a law enforcement simulator, where we faced real-world decision-making scenarios officers deal with in the field. In those moments, you realize just how fast things move—and how much courage and clarity it takes to serve with integrity.
These weren’t just cool activities or one-off challenges. They were reminders of the daily dedication, teamwork, and sacrifice that keeps Gilbert safe and strong.
I feel incredibly grateful to be part of Class 33 and to learn so much about how our town functions—from fire and police to infrastructure and planning. Every month, I walk away with a deeper sense of connection to the people and systems behind the scenes.
If you’ve ever thought about getting more involved in the community or are just curious about what makes Gilbert work, I can’t recommend this leadership program enough. Feel free to reach out—I’d love to share more or help you explore how to get involved.
More updates from Class 33 coming soon!
